About the work

Following a trip to New York and an increasing interest in the use of maps and street plans in my work (which emerged from the aerial photograph-like quality of the microchip images that informed some of my previous work) I began to use the grid as a structural device in my work.

Using liquid acrylic paint poured onto the canvas I began to experiment with a much more linear aesthetic. The grid became the basis for the composition which, again, was built up over many layers. The images represent not only an aerial view of a city but also the structure of individual buildings within it.
